چکیده

The observation of a cusp-like structure in the M00 invariant mass distribution in the decay K ± → π±π0π0 by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN has given a renewed interest in the ππ scattering lengths. We report the result of a study of a partial sample of 2.3 × 10 decays, the observation of an anomaly in the ππ mass spectrum in the region around M00 = m+, where m+ is the mass of the charged pion, and the subsequent interpretation in terms of the ππ scattering lengths. This anomaly, never observed in previous experiments, has been interpreted as an effect due to the final state charge exchange scattering process π+π− → ππ in K± → π±π+π−. From the distribution we can determine precisely (a0 − a2), the difference between the ππ scattering lengths in the isospin I = 0 and I = 2 states.

Wigner-cusp in Kaon Decays and Determination of Ππ Scattering Lengths

In the last few years it has become possible to study low energy ππ scattering in kaon decays to three pions, thanks to the high statistics measurement of K → πππ decays performed by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. At the ππ threshold, the ππ mass spectrum exhibits a Wigner-cusp, from which the S-wave ππ scattering lengths are extracted with high precision. This measurement is complement...

Precision Measurement of ππ Scattering Lengths in K e 4 Decays by NA 48 / 2

Very large statistics of charged kaon decays have been accumulated in 2003-2004 by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. The analysis of K ± → π + π − e ± ν (K e4) decays allows a model-independent approach to the study of low energy ππ scattering. From a data sample of more than 1 million K e4 decays, scattering lengths can be extracted with an improved experimental precision of few percents,...

Determination of the S - wave ππ scattering lengths from a study of K ± → π ± π 0 π 0 decays

We report the results from a study of the full sample of ∼ 6.031 × 10 K → πππ decays recorded by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. As first observed in this experiment, the ππ invariant mass (M00) distribution shows a cusp-like anomaly in the region around M00 = 2m+, where m+ is the charged pion mass. This anomaly has been interpreted as an effect due mainly to the final state charge excha...

Pion-pion scattering lengths from Ke4 and Cusp at NA48/2 experiment

π + π − e ± ν (Ke4) decay. Thanks to the absence of other hadrons in the final state the ππ interaction can be analyzed in terms of phase shift variation with the ππ invariant mass. The preliminary results on a set of ∼ 1150000 K events collected in two years of data taking, will be discussed. The second way to evaluate the ππ scattering lengths is based on the accurate study of K → πππ Dalitz ...

Spectrum and Decays of Hadronic Atoms

Hadronic atoms are highly non-relativistic loosely bound systems of hadrons mainly formed by the Coulomb interaction. The study of these hadronic bound states has seen growing interest during recent years, because they provide important information on the behavior of QCD at low-energy. The DIRAC collaboration 1 at CERN measures the lifetime of the ππ atom, and plans to determine the ππ scatteri...
